Objective

BIOCELLPHE provides frontier scientific and technological advancements to generate a breakthrough technology realizing the identification of proteins (i.e. phenotyping) as diagnostic biomarkers at single-cell level with unmatched sensitivity, multiplexing capabilities and portability. BIOCELLPHE proposes the generation of engineered bacteria able to recognize and bind to specific protein targets on the surface of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) responsible for cancer metastasis, thereby triggering the production of chemical signals that can be detected simultaneously, and with extremely high sensitivity by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). SERS is a powerful analytical technique that employs plasmonic nanoparticles as optical enhancers for ultrasensitive chemical analysis achieving single-molecule detection level […]

SPAIN – The University of Vigo (UVigo, www.uvigo.es) has placed a considerable emphasis on R&D activities by way of numerous internal funded projects, as well as through its various services and research centres. This support has enormously increased the scientific output and the capacity to obtain external resources.

FRANCE – Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale (INSERM, http://www.inserm.fr) is the French leading institution in biomedical research ranked in the top 10 worldwide research institutions for innovation. The Centre de Biochimie Structurale (CBS) in Montpellier is a highly-interdisciplinary research center mixing structural biology, biophysics, and bioengineering

FRANCE – The Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement (INRAE, www.inrae.fr/) is a French public research institute. INRAE leads projects on targeted research for sustainable agricultures, biotechnology, and a safeguarded environment and a healthy high quality food.

SPAIN – The National Biotechnology Centre (CNB; www.cnb.csic.es) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC; www.csic.es/en) is the leading Biological Research facility in the Public domain in Spain. Since its start in 1992, it has maintained very productive programs in Microbial Biotechnology, Structural Biology, Plant Molecular Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Immunology, and Oncology.

PORTUGAL – The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL, www.inl.int) is a global centre of excellence in applied nanotechnology research under the status of an International Governmental Organization (IGO). The INL research programme comprises four strategic fields of application of nanoscience and nanotechnology: Food and Environment monitoring, ICT, Renewable Energy and Health.

ITALY – Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri SpA Società Benefit (ICS Maugeri, www.icsmaugeri.it) encompasses a network of 19 clinical sites and clinical research institutes with special focus on high-level, high quality rehabilitation treatments targeted to oncological, neurological, cardiologic patients and on disorders requiring chronic treatments.

SPAIN – Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM, www.lia.upm.es) is the Technical University of Madrid and is the largest Spanish technological university. More than 2,400 researchers carry out their activity at the UPM, grouped in 204 Research Groups, 19 Research Centers or Institutes and 55 Laboratories.

PORTUGAL – RUBYnanomed (www.rubynanomed.com) was founded in 2018 as a spin-off of INL and aims to bring lab discoveries to the clinical market. RUBYnanomed focusses on the non-invasive monitoring of cancer progression. RUBYnanomed has developed a precise cancer snapshot tool, the RUBYchipTM, a microfluidic device for isolating all types of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) from unprocessed whole blood.

FRANCE – TEMATYS (www.tematys.com) is an independent SME dedicated to studies, strategy and outsourced commercialization in Optics, Photonics, Sensors, Imaging, Lighting, materials engineering and their application markets.
